The Dovre Center for Faith and Learning at Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ, in partnership with Prairie Public Broadcasting, invites the public to a special screening of the documentary “Chosen Home” on Tuesday, April 1. The event will take place in Barry Auditorium on Concordia’s campus and will feature a post-screening panel discussion with faculty, alumni, and community leaders.

“Chosen Home” is a 30-minute documentary produced by Prairie Public that explores the personal journeys of immigrants and refugees who have made Minnesota their home.

Through intimate interviews and rare archival photos, the film highlights the resilience, challenges, and triumphs of new Americans — and the impact their stories continue to have on the region.

The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the film screening at 6 p.m. A panel discussion will start at approximately 6:45 p.m., offering a deeper reflection on the film’s themes and their connection to the region’s rich history of immigration.

Panelists include 2023 Concordia graduate Sam Garcia; Dr. Fanny Roncal Ramirez, associate professor of Spanish; and Dr. Marcia Santiago Scarpin, assistant professor of management and program director for the Management Science and Quantitative Methods graduate degree. Dr. Lisa Twomey, associate professor of Spanish and director of Community Engagement and Integrative Learning, will moderate.

“Concordia is located in the heart of the Red River Valley, where stories of Scandinavian and Lutheran immigration have long shaped our identity,” said Dr. Michael Chan, director of the Dovre Center. “This event is an opportunity to honor that heritage while lifting up the evolving narratives of new Americans in our communities today.”

Interviews were filmed at Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ and the University of Minnesota Crookston this winter.

The event is free and open to the public. To RSVP and learn more, go to .

The documentary is scheduled to air on Prairie Public Television on April 28 at 8 p.m.
