Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ will host the internationally acclaimed fusion band Patax for a live concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center. The concert is part of the college’s Cultural Event Series.
Known as Spain’s most prominent fusion band, Patax has earned a global following for its electrifying performances that blend flamenco, jazz, funk, and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
At Concordia, the band will perform its dynamic reinterpretations of iconic hits by The Beatles and Michael Jackson.
In a special collaboration, Patax will be joined on stage by Russ Peterson (saxophone) and Nat Dickey (trombone), Concordia music faculty members who are in the local group Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome.
Guest trumpet virtuoso Kellin Hanas will also perform.
Tickets for the concert are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, and free for all K-12 and college students. Tickets are available at ConcordiaCollege.edu/CulturalEvents or by calling the box office at 218.299.4366.
The members of Patax will also lead several masterclasses as part of Concordia’s annual High School Honor Band and Honor Jazz Bands Festival. Friday’s classes are free and open to the public. They will be held in the Hvidsten Hall of Music:
The festival, running April 4-6, will bring high school musicians from nine states to work with Concordia's distinguished wind and percussion faculty, a guest artist/conductor, and Concordia students.
The festival concludes with a free student concert at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in Memorial Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
